Update of blog - AND re-release of Elaine and Nicol - "Essence of Healing" Shoot

To update my friend's locally, abroad and especially my Brazillian friends about this blog...due to the direction of Publishers, Agents, Published Authors and other professionals in the publishing industry, we are making necessary changes.  Many of you have inquired about the Tarot, Astrology and Full Moon (which was WILDLY popular) posts that I was doing and why I have ceased to do them.  The answer is that we have been strongly advised to keep this blog all about the women featured in The Mystic Women of Salem series.  So...until this project is published I will not be doing the posts mentioned above.  My apologies to everyone, but the goal here is to get this book published...once that happens I will ultimately resume the educational posts for you.  Thank you so much for all of your interest and continued support!

Elaine and Nic continue to be pillars of positivity and incredible cosmic energy in our community.  Nic is now creating spectacular crystal jewelry and Essence of Healing is still going strong and hosting numerous events throughout the year...check out their calendar to see what they are offering.

I must mention the painful subject of Nic's little baby that was present during our shoot...tragically, Jacob left our dimension upon birth.  However, his presence is forever etched in the Akashic record AND photographically in this project.  Known as the "Littlest Mystic" Jacob has his own portrait in this series, still being hosted by his Mother, through unexplained lights he is featured on his own, in his own portrait !
Enjoy this very special re-release and please go to https://www.facebook.com/mysticwomenofsalem/  and LIKE the page!  This is the ONLY thing holding this project back from being published !!!  We appreciate your support!

Reiki   Masters - Elaine and Nicol of "Essence of Healing" in Salem Ma.

On Saturday, April 27, 2013 it was Mother/Daughter Elaine and Nicol's long awaited turn to be photographed as the only duo and sole Reiki practitioners to be featured in The Mystic Women of Salem book.  Both were interviewed almost 2 1/2 years ago, so they were quite anxious to finally have their experience in the studio...and what an experience it was!  Like no other, for sure.
Interviewing over 40 women, shooting, blogging, facebooking, and a whole host of other PR efforts takes bookoos of time, as I state in all interviews.  A sincere thanks to those who have graciously waited so long for their turn.

I had come to the studio the night before the shoot and prepared the studio (which is what I usually do) in effort to pace the physical demands of shooting and to reduce my stress levels.  However, this time it was a bust!  I came in and had begun to get the lighting set up when I prematurely checked on the remotes...not my usual drill for sure.   I discovered that all the remotes were gone!  I began searching throughout the entire studio hoping to find them laying around somewhere because some student was too preoccupied to follow correct procedures in equipment storage.  After almost an hour I finally gave up, knowing that I HAD to make that dreaded call..."I have to cancel your shoot."   This is soooo major, because most of the MWS women have their hair and makeup professionally done, which is quite costly.  Some of the ladies even purchase custom tailored clothes and buy one of a kind props to use in their shoots.  I was in a severe panic!  I did make several calls to the ladies, but to make a very long story short, the final result turned out to be fantastic.  I ran into the Chair of the Art Dept.  in the hall and we discovered that one of the Professor's had the remotes and would be returning them to me in an hour.  SO THE SHOOT WAS STILL ON!!!!  YEA!

Elaine and Nicol arrived at Meir Hall around 2:30 pm.  I purposely took an added 10 or 15 minutes to review and sign paperwork just to get myself back on track.  I depend greatly upon creative energy and flow.  For you artists out there you know what I'm talking about.   Any negativity or disruption in the flow has an adverse effect on me, the subjects, the equipment, and finally the photographs.  Definitely something I try to avoid at all costs!

When I felt calm we all headed up to the studio.  Elaine and Nicol are truly two of the most positive and "light filled" people I have ever known...so, it did not take long to pivot and turn things around.

I had designed their shoot entirely to be a duo, complete with standard "umbrella style" lighting to begin our journey (the classic shots you'll see on smugmug).   It is customary to ease the subjects into the "mystic" realm with test shots and "lite" music.  When I change the first set up of lights to  more dramatic setup, I change the music...pre-set to call upon the Guardians and Freyja herself.  At that point I am hearing things, feeling things, thoughts are racing and messages are being heard.  The atmosphere in the studio changes and the further we go along, the more dramatic and incredible things get.

Elaine and Nicol were easy to work with and took direction very, very well.  What I did not expect...nor have I experienced before, a kaleidoscope of color variations and designs that I DID NOT set up myself.  During the entire shoot I had our staple, black paper backdrop.  I did set up back lighting, meaning the strobe was FACING the backs of the subjects (towards the camera).  Knowing exactly how I had designed and set up the lighting I was continuously amazed by what was happening.   I showed the ladies the images on my camera view screen repeatedly throughout the shoot for confirmation.  I have learned over the last 3 years to do that so that I'll have witnesses to whatever is happening in the studio.  Most of the time there is no logical or scientific explanation for what is happening.  I have to be SURE and steadfast in recollection and clear about the events...as I am asked to explain the lighting set up or how and why I did this or that (to the Professors).

During the editing process I saw what appeared to the naked eye, to be a rather long scratch above Nicol's head.  I thought dang...I did not see that scratch on the backdrop, which means photoshop to the rescue.  Before I did that, a little voice prompted me to zoom in tight to inspect the scratch.  It is not a scratch at all...but a tiny, fluid like ladder...just as plain as day.  I knew Nicol and her Mom would be fascinated with this news.

Nicol's baby is named Jacob.

During the critique with Professor Lewis, we reviewed Guenevere, Mulyssa, Elaine/Nicol, and Karen's shoots.  He was very, very pleased with my submissions (5 - 9 best shots).  However, I think it is safe to say he was pretty "blown away" by Nicol's floor shot!  He said it was the best shot of mine throughout the series.  Now, what you must understand is that he is referring to many, many things...primarily technical difficulty of lighting, composition, beauty, etc..etc..etc..  He insisted that this shot be included in MWS book..."this shot is too good NOT to be in the book...you need to make it work so it's included."  WOW...boy, he really liked it ALOT!   One thing he was very pleased with is the background lighting...the rose tones around Nicol's torso and shoulders, then complimented by the blue lighting above her head.  The back lighting is fantastic he said, and referred to the lighting several times during the critique.  I was thrilled with his response/critiques even though I was exhausted from the "warp speed" shooting that I had been doing for the last several months.  I needed this...I so needed this.

I just did not have the courage or strength really, to tell him...

there was NO lighting on the backdrop...zero.

:}

PS  In preping for the pr launch I zoomed in again,,,just to make sure the ladder is still there.  I discovered that there are dozens and dozens of what appear to be tiny stars and circles of light.  Now...logically, if this were dust, they would be everywhere.  They are only in between Nicol and Elaine (the hands over hearts shot)  there are zero anywhere else.  Just FYI  :}

Re-release and Update with Professor Maria Carles, HPS!

I recently attended a Grand Opening celebration of Maria's here in Salem.  The Opening is a re-location and expansion of the Hermetic Arts Learning Center at 107 Bridge Street.  She and her partner are offering occult supplies, witchcraft instruction and ceremonial magick at this new location.  Also, for the first time Witch I of the Cabot Tradition is being taught entirely in Espanol, which by the way has made Laurie Cabot very happy indeed!!!  Although Maria is busy with all the above she is also still a Professor at Northeastern University AND a dedicated Mother as well.   MWS would like to congratulate Maria/partner on their new business and we sincerely wish them continued success!

Another Mystic woman in our area truly making a difference in this world !!!
R :}

Maria and I reviewing paperwork.

Maria telling me about her magical Father who did not know about 3X3!

Your goofy photog and a lovely Professor and herbalist.
Maria arrived at the studio with cases of fresh and dried herbs, plants, jewelry, and beautiful gowns.  Since she is an herbalist, the theme that I designed for her was based around plants and herbs.  Although the lighting was going to be a real challenge (due to numerous shadows bouncing off the leaves/plants), it was confirmed to me via dreams to forge ahead and make no changes from the original vision.

Since my shoulder (bicep) is pulled and I have torn ligaments from the elbow to shoulder, I knew this was going to be very challenging and painful.  Fortunately, new Mystic woman Dawn, volunteered her whole Saturday off of work to come and assist me.  Thank you so much D, I could not have done it without you!  Not only did she assist, being a photography enthusiast she also shot all the behind the scenes pics!  Job well done D!

Dawn putting the final touches on plants.
Our lovely Mystic Woman, Dawn.

Maria is an exotic beauty with gorgeous blue/black hair down to her hips.  She was a natural in front of the camera after the first round of test shots.  Mid-shoot I put on the music which "brings the big dogs in" and boy did they come!  The air became thick, instincts and guidance kicked in.  At one point I placed the vines of the pothos ivy I brought around her shoulders...within moments the ivy seemed to grow around her and Maria herself became one with the adoring plant.  She was so touched by the emotions shown by the plant that she took a cutting home with her...Ivy really loved Maria.

The shoot was long and quite complex in many areas.  The whole studio was engulfed with spirits, guardians, abundant aroma of sage, rosemary and other spices and herbs.

Yet another "Mystic" phenomenon to write about!

Re-publish Jacq Civitarese PR 8/2/2016 - A Day In Paris with Jacqie C.

Chances are if you have visited Salem during the Harvest Season you noticed shop owners, witches, locals, etc., gliding around Salem wearing glorious wool capes and cloaks.  These are more than likely the creations of our own Jacq...a tailor and designer in Salem (she also furnishes many clothing items for the local shoppes).  Eternal Stitch is the business name...check it out folks!  Jacq has been very busy since her shoot, not only professionally but personally as well.  We should congratulate our gal on her recent marriage - CONGRATS JACQ!  Read on about her shoot!  :}:}:}

I awoke to a snowy morning and checked to see if my shoot was still on. Rebecca and I, both being brave women, decided it was a "go". The excitement I felt to be a part of "The Mystic Women of Salem" project, that I woke up with, remained and became a power point even after a very difficult moment with my love affairs that morning. Despite a personal let down, my will to serge on with the shoot exploded around me and my closet as I looked for an outfit among all my creations. I then surrounded myself with pink light and did my hair and makeup (which I never do). Velvet, satin, tulle and majick filled my four large shopping bags as I hurried to the train. Rebecca was there to greet me with a great smile and much enthusiasm. We both spoke of the weather and the wild morning we had endured thus far.

We arrived at Salem State University at 1pm and through back doors and dark hallways I got my first look at the studio. The set of my "Shoppe" was displayed in the room. The purple hanging lamp was a beacon for my business, Eternal Stitch. Interestingly, purple and black are my business colors.

Rebecca introduced me to "Mystics" cyber wizard, Brian Miller, who is also a friend and assistant to MWS. After formalities I ate lunch while Brian and Rebecca concentrated on technical preparations and set up. The "behind the scenes" shots came naturally as we hung my creations and admired shoes and vintage hats. The mood was set and the air filled with beautiful music of "La Vie En Rose" by Edith Piaf, the French songstress. Her voice, music, and life were emotional and tragic, much like another favorite of mine...Judy Garland.

Now...it's time for the shoot.

First, Rebecca was attempting to recreate a Eugene Atget portrait, shot in the late 20's, one that is considered a masterpiece. As each shot was explained (to prepare me for the mood she was looking for) I felt more at ease and comfortable in my new "Shoppe". In between shots of strobe flashes, my sight became fixed on the between realms of Salem. Glimpses of objects came in and out of reality as hyper flashes filled my vision. Luckily, I am comfortable with this state of being and the photos that transpired, reflected my loving and far away mood.

As the music ended, Rebecca switched lighting techniques/set ups, focusing on closeup stitchery shots. At times we were frustrated as Rebecca was trying to capture the crystal (which was on the tip of the needle), reflection by zoomed strobe shots. It was like trying to photograph a Faerie...the star burst of light did not want to be revealed to the world without love, patience and timing. Then, it dawned on Rebecca...there was no music! As soon as she put her majick music CD on the spark of the needle lit up and my spirit joined with it throughout the rest of the shots. We were all in bliss as time was quickly passing and the weariness of creating art had set in. The final shots were all together a different lighting setup and process producing a totally different look. Once complete, we reviewed the shoot in it's entirety on a large monitor screen in the photography lab. Rebecca had done it! The Atget shoot was a success and reflected a seamstress in love with her creations and work.

All the textures I brought were displayed by Rebecca's camera brilliantly...yet complexly. Color, texture and star bursts filled each image, our hearts now content.

Rebecca drove me to Salem depot as the sun was retiring for the evening. I was on my way back to reality....feeling beautiful and a sense of accomplishment.

Thank you so much Rebecca and Brian for all your efforts, talent and hard work!

Faerie Blessings...Jacq Civitarese of Eternal Stitch

Re-Publishing of Mystic Woman Memie - Portrait With a Life of It's Own

Memie is the first woman to be shot in the studio for The Mystic Women of Salem project.  Actually, her shoot was done even before
MWS was born...and before this blog was created.  As you will read below, the interviewing process was beginning at the time I presented her with a portrait from her shoot.  Various processes and policies had not even been thought of at this point, much less implemented.  Wow,  what a long, long way we have come.
Memie continues to be a pillar of positivity and powerful magick in our community in Salem, Ma.
She just told me that she would be promoting MWS tonight on the radio!!!  THANK YOU MEMIE!!!  For your continued support, honesty, integrity and for being an excellent example of the extremely high levels that we, as magickal/mystical women conduct ourselves resulting in being role models for the mundane world - and WE NEED THAT NOW folks!!!

The below is a snapshot I took of my dear friend Memie at Mabon 2010 in Salem, Mass. She is holding a portrait that I had shot of her a few months ago. Memie has been instrumental during the creation and interviewing/screening process for "The Mystic Women of Salem" project. I was/am so indebted to her for her consistent willingness to assist, that this portrait was printed/mounted and presented to her as a gift, before the Mabon 2010 celebration...as a token of our appreciation. She was so excited that she immediately began going from table to table showing everyone! The feedback that I got was overwhelming and ALL positive. Many people were wanting to book a shoot with me, but, I had to discourage them since "Mystic" is taking priority at this time. I am not booking shoots for portraits like hers until summer 2011...just fyi everyone.

Laurie Cabot told Memie that I had truly "captured" her essence! Thanks Laurie!

Many discussions about the project/subject selection and upcoming shoots continued throughout the evening.

There was buzz in the photo department on Monday about these snapshots..."the portrait seems to have a life of it's own." Yes..I concur! :)

Re-Post for PR - Penny Cabot - An Evening with a Princess

Truly a learning experience for this photog!  This was really the first time I had experienced a shoot with a model who had professional experience...what a joy it was!  Since this shoot I have photographed Penny numerous times and in my opinion the portraits get better and better.  Penny and I developed a true psychic connection when shooting...all I have to do is think of the emotion, the feeling, or physical poses that I want and within seconds she picks up on it and does it without saying a word.  Indeed, very rare - for sure!
We focused on professionalism and "nailing" the shots.  It really was much later in the series that I realized just how much magick surrounded this project.  I learned to pre-programmed designated music to call in the guardians along with many other magickal methods that became the "norm" for all my shoots.  What this experience brought to me was a very dear friend, and how to maintain a high level of integrity and expectation from my job as a photographer.  Thanks Penny for giving me the confidence I so desperately needed to continue on with MWS !!!

I will be releasing more of Penny's shoots on FB over the next year...so stay tuned folks...stay tuned!

Just a test shot - LOVELY!
Penny's shoot is inspired by a portrait done by George Hurrell in the 1950's at Paramount Studios. Of course I will be adding my own lighting techniques and design, keeping it original, but the idea is ALL George. Since Penny is a very talented artist, I will be incorporating her artistic flair into the shoot.

Judging the way Penny's photos turned out from Laurie's Birthday celebration (http://allure.smugmug.com/cabot/LaurieCabotBirthday I think it is certainly safe to say her portraits will be quite beautiful!

When Penny arrived she was all ready for the shoot, and it only took a moment or two for her to change into a beautiful glittery dress that the strobes seemed to like very much, by bouncing off the sequins and beads in a most complimentary fashion.

I did not know that Penny had previous experience modeling...but, it only took a few shots and I knew that this gal really knew how to pose, how to work the props, and most importantly, how to feel the emotions I was looking for. She was eager to help me achieve my goals for her debut as a "Mystic Woman", and believe me she did just that! She "worked" the drapery in a way that I had not expected and truly surpassed the expectations that I did have...she took it to a whole new level. The lighting and equipment cooperated, and really we had no technical issues throughout the duration of her shoot! What a joy!

It was a long shoot, but so very worth it. I cannot wait for you all to see her top 8 shots in the "Mystic Women of Salem" photo gallery http://allure.smugmug.com, I think you will all be very, very pleased. I will be adding her photos to the gallery as they are completed...so check the above website frequently over the next 2 weeks.

The goofy photog posing with a regal Penny!
Your photog goofing around before shoot.
The set is now ready and awaits the arrival of a Princess!

Promotional Re-Post - Mulysa Meyham of Good Mojo Tattoos

A studio portrait will be released tomorrow on our MWS FB Business Page !  Check it out !

The Mystic Women of Salem Project is proud to present, Mulysa Meyham of Good Mojo Tattoos !!!

On  Sunday May 12, 2013 at 5pm the lovely breathe of fresh air arrived at the studio on an overcast and rather chilly May day, even for New England.  Mulysa is a native Salemite who has generational history with the city of Salem and it's people.  Needless to say, Mulysa is the FIRST and ONLY tattoo artist that will be featured in the MWS project.  She is a lovely young woman with the wisdom of the ancients.  I was captivated by her and her story from the very day that I interviewed her at Good Mojo Tattoo Shop, well over a year ago.  She brings integrity, honesty, compassion, and unlimited artistic flair to the project.  As you will clearly see, from her shoot, Mulysa IS ART...walking, moving, breathing ART.  She is fascinating to look at and compelling to talk to.  There are not many of her generation that have the knowledge and wisdom of the ancients like Mulysa does...it is quite jolting at first, one just does not expect such things from youth.  Her shoot was fast and virtually with no direction from me...it was like "strike a pose" from the very beginning.  She was like shooting a seasoned pro.

I am certainly not used to shooting so fast...I had a hard time keeping up with this girl!  I called it a wrap in only a little over an hour (and folks that's unheard of with MWS shoots)!   When I heard the little whisper,"call it a wrap" I was quite shocked and a bit perplexed.  However, I learned long ago to just do as I'm told and surrender to the powers at be...so I did.

I knew that we had gotten some incredible shots which is the norm for this project, but, what had me a bit confused was that the air in the studio did not change or become "thick" as I call it.  That's a sure sign that "other forces" such as the Guardians are indeed present.  Knowing that Mulysa is a VERY powerful young woman, I really was perplexed by the lack of changes in atmospheric conditions that ALWAYS occur when working on MWS, ESPECIALLY shoots with these women.  However, like I said, I have learned the hard way...just don't ask questions and DON'T BUCK IT!

Mulysa left the studio seemingly satisfied and seemed to enjoy the experience as well.   I, on the other hand had a nagging feeling...certainly not one of disappointment, just curious more than anything.  It was not until I began editing and downloading the shots to hard drive that it hit me!  And boy did it...ONCE AGAIN!

During shoots I break every so often and let the subject view a few of the shots via the view screen on the camera...it seems to help them with a "visual" so they can understand what I'm going for.  At one of those breaks I showed Mulysa the sequence of shots I had taken after she let her dreads down and unwrapped from the velvet.  She was not exactly excited about those particular shots, which surprised me because I remembered vividly with visions of a "lost tribe" a newly found civilization deep, deep, in the forrest and Mulysa was the Queen.  During this sequence, my pre-programmed cd's were filling the studio with drum music.  It had an all encompassing echo...it seemed to fill the entire studio...the longer I shot the more intense the drums.  Of course this is one of those experiences that I have from behind the lens (I have many such experiences) but, not like this one...with sound AND visions.   While I was editing all this came to me.  I thought...you know I'd better go check that cd...I don't ever remember that music before (thinking there was some message or something - all I knew was something was up).  When it defies logic and makes no sense what so ever, my ears and senses perk up to FULL ALERT status...

I searched every track of every cd that are designated and pre-programmed for MWS shoots, not once, not twice, but thrice.  There IS no drum music on those cd's.  I have searched 3 times now...so, I chalk it up to Freyja and the Guardians once again...

Message Heard, Message Received, Message Relayed

Great Job Mulysa - Hope you feel differently about the "tribal" shot(s) - check it out!
Luv ya!

MWS LADIES - RE-ORGANIZATION AND PR UPDATES

Very shortly we will be posting some of the studio portraits on Facebook.  This is being done for PR purposes.  Meeting with publishers, we found out that the MWS page (business Facebook page) needed to "switch gears" in a sense.  The portraits that will be posted are NOT in the running for publication in the Mystic series.  However, know that these portraits are absolutely good enough to be used for PR purposes.  The shots that will published simply mean that the lighting, expression, details of the shot rated higher in the excellence category.
We aim to bring this page up to the level that the website is.  The website is being viewed and hit thousands of times over the Facebook page.  So, in effort to have more consistency and most certainly more accurate numbers, there will be significant changes on the page.
Soon, I will be working several days per week with Laurie and Penny, so William and I are working hard to get all MWS business completed before then.
Just FYI peeps.

MWS UPDATE - DECISIONS, DECISIONS, DECISIONS - May 2016

         DECISIONS, DECISIONS, DECISIONS
The last few months the Project Manager (Wiliam)  and I have been consulting with professionals in the publishing industry (agents, houses, authors, etc.,).   The feedback has been interesting and at times a bit shocking for us.  We are hearing, "beautiful, interesting, magickal",  the shocker for me especially is hearing "too regional".  Even with our data reflecting national and international interest and thousands of views/hits via the MWS gallery on Performance Art Photography website, blog and Facebook pages (especially the gallery - a real "hit" you guys!).
Being so surprised by the "regional" comments and feedback, William and I are now having to re-evaluate the direction and ultimate goals for MWS.  In fact, the entire project and it's intention is being reviewed and re-calibrated.  Confused yet?  Let me explain and get a bit more specific.
The professionals are saying that MWS is too regional, implying that the only interest/sales would be from Salemites and the surrounding areas.  Our data and numbers does not seem to sway this opinion.  The next possible direction and scenario for the project, in William's opinion (as well as mine), leads us to major decisions that will effect the future of MWS tremendously.
Several sleepless nights later along with the feedback/opinions from MWS ladies, published photographers, artists and mentors we have streamlined and come up with the following possible scenarios.  The first being...MWS would become one chapter in a much larger and expanded version of the original concept...ie, other locations and women would be included and featured in the book.   Of course this scenario would cost mega bucks and several years before final compilation and publication.  That being said, I am reminded of the old saying, "what the God's and Goddess's have in mind is much bigger than you can ever imagine".  This in itself is haunting us throughout the decision process.  The second scenario would be to stick to the original concept and try to self publish MWS.  This means that I would have to sacrifice the "fine art" label and quality of the final product.  Please understand that my vision of the book is done by Master Printers (very few have the knowledge, equipment and ability to produce a book of this caliber).  I did consult with Christopher Penczak and Copper Cauldron Publishing and his response was that for a project like this, they just did not have the equipment to take on MWS - at this time. He concurred that MWS could only be produced/printed by a select few in the publishing industry.  This was certainly confirmation for me.
If we should decide to produce MWS on a local level, even at a lower quality than my initial vision, it would still cost several thousand dollars. The photography books that I have seen around Salem that feature the historical sites/locations of interest...etc., etc., are not in the same league as those that I have photographed...even a novice can see the vast difference.  Please be clear, am I implying that I am this incredible world class photog?  No.  However, I do know for a fact that my advantage and "edge" is that I had other forces clearly working along with me and in my (and MWS) favor.  People will see this vast difference when the location shoots are revealed...they are sealed and have not been seen by anyone other than those working with me on MWS shoots around Salem.
At this point we have to analyze the intentions and directions being made for MWS's future.  Scenario two would pacify the ladies of the project and some of the locals...is that why I would consider # two?  Number one is a much, much bigger project and would require an incredible amount of dedication, time, and not to mention dollars.  So...which is it?  Which path is the correct one?  Which one will please the Goddess? Which one will benefit the most people?
Have we put aside all personal gain and considered what's best for the project?

Those are the million dollar questions at this time.
We shall see peeps...we shall see.  R :|

TAROT AND THE MISSING LINK

Tarot and the Missing Link - I
The origin and meaning of the word Tarot is Egyptian in origin.  Tar-ra, the Road to Knowledge or the Royal Road.

Antonine Court De Gebelins, a French occultist and philosopher in the 1700's is often credited with the beginnings of the Tarot as we know it today.  By combining a parlor card game and  Egyptian hieroglyphs the Tarot cards were supposedly born.  De Gebelins was fascinated with Egyptian culture and the Book of Thoth which had been copied from hieroglyphs to gold tablets.  It was this transfer to tablets that inspired De Gebelins.  He put two and two together, called it a revelation and there you have it.  Shortly after,
Jean Baptist Alliette, a spiritualist, took De Gebelins idea/revelation and designed his own version of Tarot cards.  In 1788 Alliette formed the Society for the Interpretation of the Book of Thoth.  To date it is considered perhaps the closest version of the original Book of Thoth.  It was not until the invention of the printing press that Tarot cards became available to wealthy enthusiasts all over Europe.
There we have it...or do we?  I could just leave this here... but we are on a journey together, to travel through time, to put the pieces together, to discover historical secrets and legends which will lead each one of us to decide for ourselves what IS the truth about the origins of the Tarot.
Let's look at the REAL beginning... let's look at the "most important book ever written in human history" according to Peter Gandy, researcher in western mystery traditions and ancient texts.  Let's look at Book of Thoth.
The Book of Thoth you say?  Yes.  This book plays an integral part in our journey.  Other key players will be Trismegistus (thrice great) Hermes, the Greek philosopher credited with The Seven Laws of the Universe.  Laws that I aspire to live by, as do most pagan practitioners.  The catholics, christians, the Renaissance period, Allister Crowley and finally let's NOT forget the missing link!
Just a bit of trivia here, did you know that the Acquarian Age was referred to in the Book of Thoth? Remember the Age of Aquarius...boy I do!
Egyptian scholars tell us that this monumental 5000 year old book contains spells that predict the future handed down from Thoth himself.  Let's find out a bit about Thoth.
Martin Raven, archeologist, has been digging at a 4000 year old burial ground in the Nile Valley and it reveals a pantheon of Gods, including Thoth.
Thoth was the scribe of the Egyptian Gods.  He himself was a God, the God of magick, healing, and wisdom.  It was said that the mortal readers of his book would experience great powers.  Glen Godinho, University of Liverpool, says that this book and it's wisdom would allow humans to talk to the animals, access the afterlife and understand the mysteries of the Universe.
Peter Gandy, tells of a legend about a mysterious magician that somehow acquired the original Book of Thoth and after reading it suddenly understood all language, including the language of animals and all the inhabitants of the earth.  He understood the stars, the great creation and the grand design of it all.  News of this fantastic book spread all over Egypt and lands far, far away.  The news even touched Alexander the Great.    After the invasion of Egypt by the Greeks, they became captivated...even spellbound by the pyramids, statuary, hieroglyphs, their temples and Gods.  This led to the adoption of some of the Egyptian beliefs and their Gods...one being Thoth.  The Greeks already had their beloved Hermes, the patron of science, writing, and philosophy.  Ultimately they equated Hermes and Thoth as the same God.  They created a blended version of the Book of Thoth and the teachings of Hermes.  The Corpus Hermeticum.  But, after they did so, the Egyptian text became confused.  The Greek text devoured it and the original text simply disappeared.  Legend says that the last original copy of the Book of Thoth was buried along with the mysterious magician in Egypt.
It would not be rediscovered for thousands of years.
Now that this blogger is twisted and gimped up like a pretzel I will end part I of our journey with the last words that the Thrice Great Hermes gave to us on his death bed.
"Wise words, although written by my decaying hand, remain imperishable through time; Imbued with the medicine of immortality by the All-Master.  Be unseen and undiscovered by all those who will come and go, wandering the wastelands of life.  Be hidden, until and older heaven births human beings who are worthy of your wisdom."

Intro - Tarot and the Missing Link

                                 Tarot and the Missing Link

The Tarot in all it's multi-faceted complexity, power, use, interpretation, and history has always fascinated me (along with thousands of others).  Being one of the most powerful and commonly used divination tools for psychics, and dare I say clairvoyants, mediums and old school fortune tellers, to date.  I include psychics, clairvoyant, etc., in the aforementioned as it has been my personal experience that more often than not the Tarot cards are now used as "connection" tools.  I have seen this more frequently in the past two decades than ever before.  Prior, Tarot readers usually specialized in interpretation of the cards very specifically, such as (depending upon the spread) the position, suit, arcana, order, and whether the card was laid upside down or right side up, could (and does) have a significant difference in meaning for the querent.  Now, as stated above, it seems to be used more as a tool. Along with the combination of card meanings and psychic abilities they work together for a reading.  Most reputable readers, psychics, etc., will caution the querent prior to the cast, of a little thing known as "free will".  This, in my opinion, should be stated each and every time one seeks council, advice, or a reading.  For we all are given the privilege of free will.  I always begin with,"if you stay on this path"...etc., etc.  That being said, let's get to the matter at hand.

For decades my fascination with such things has only increased and definitely expanded my horizons, knowledge, and beliefs.  In short, I feel a little bit wiser but still remain a seeker.  There is much in this world that I question and seek answers for.
Throughout the decades one question remained in my mind about the beginning of the Tarot.  How could such a powerful and accurate (in the right hands) divination tool have been the result of a parlor game?  That just did not make sense to me.  Hence, the reason for my research.  Although the parlor game plays a role in the Tarot's beginnings it is far from the origin.  This is a journey over thousands of years that we shall take, to Egypt, Greece, France, Italy and eventually the Untied States.  The information that I will be sharing with you does NOT come from the internet.  I did view one or two sites and read their interpretation of Tarot history, however, there were no changes to my documentation whatsoever.  In fact, I did not see where the missing link was even mentioned.  Historical facts yes, but the missing link, no.  I am sure it's out there (meaning the internet) but I have not found where it is referenced.  Due to the length of this subject it will be done in 2-3 parts.  I will not bore you by going too far into historical events, will only be sharing what is pertinent...AND I'll try to make it a bit personal and entertaining.
The first part is set for publication tomorrow.   R :}

Currently - Negotiations/Proposals/Data Analysis/Update Info.

                      Happy Spring Equinox and
                                      Ostara  !!!
The above photo was taken during my theater makeup class a couple of years ago...just fyi.

The project is going full steam and we are busy gathering information, data analysis, preparing proposals and updating information for agents and publishing houses.  This is about all I can tell you at this point...just letting you know we are still working hard !  The wonderful thing that we just found out last night is that all the pr campaigns, promotions, social media, websites, fb pages, etc., etc., was NOT done in vain!  Those of you who know me personally, know that I griped and moaned about all that work from day one.  Well...I am certainly "eating my words" now.  William and Brian were absolutely correct in pushing me to do all those things for the last 5 years, as these are mandatory by publishing houses.  The beauty is that we are absolutely 100% ahead of the game.  Had we NOT done these things over the years we would be scrambling and trying to get all the aforementioned designed, up and running as fast as possible.  Hence we would easily be talking about six months or more before we could produce solid numbers and presentable sites/information for interested parties.
I know there has been criticism about how MWS has been handled over the years.  I for one was questioning myself as to why we were doing PR campaigns without a finished product to promote.  The answer is folks, because that's the way it is done now days.  The days of handling a project over to a house and them taking care of all these things are long gone and will never be handled like that again.  Essentially, I am told first hand that you have to present a project to interested parties as if you have no publisher and the project could be done without a house...plain and simple.  So...folks, we ARE absolutely correct and again ahead of schedule in comparison to a project that was not promoted, no web sites created, no pr campaigns,  no shows, etc., etc.  We would be AT LEAST six months to a year behind.  So MWS is overjoyed and elated at this news!!!  I hope you are all celebrating with us and we shall continue to "plug away."
The project has taken priority over the Tarot post, however, it is coming...just a matter of typing it all !
Enjoy and have a safe Ostara, Spring Equinox, and an upcoming lunar eclipse !!!

                       Full Moon in Virgo
                              Ice Moon
The February full moon is also known as the Crow Moon, Storm Moon, Snow Moon, Hunger Moon, and the Big Winter Moon - please know that there are many other names for each full moon, it depends entirely upon the source and tradition.
Usually in the month of February much of the Northern Hemisphere is experiencing icy conditions...however, with global warming the atmosphere and our Mother Earth is changing at an alarming rate.  For this post we will stick with the Ice Moon.

The moon will enter into Virgo at 6:24 am and she will become completely full at 1:20 pm EST.  I just went out on the front porch and gazed awhile at this very icy and cold looking moon (though not completely full) here in old Salem Towne.  The atmosphere is unusually calm and the cloud's are whispy and flowy creating a lovely frame for our lunar goddess.  This is a time of year to renew your commitment to yourself and to your deities.  It is a rather quiet time and for me that is the time when I can "hear" very clearly.  I can hear the whispers of instructions and guidance along with advisement on how to deal with situations with grace and dignity.  Perhaps if you become quiet and still you will "hear" too!

It's a good time to purify vibrations by removing negative ones and inviting positive ones into your space and life.  Prepare your environment, mind, body and spirit to become receptive to positivity.

The Virgo moon is ruled by Mercury, it is feminine, dry, barren, and earth energy.  This is a good time for analyzing data, situations and relationships.  It is also an excellent time to care for your animals (not that you don't) but an especially good time for training and getting check ups.  This moon is also good for carrying out decisions that have been made regarding work and future plans.  Try to keep looking at the forest and make sure that though trees are lovely,  that they don't get in the way of the forest.  In other words keep your eye on the larger picture and the grand scheme of things no matter what your particular situation is.  Patience is needed however try not to focus too much on details.  In Laurie Cabot's Book of Spells she states, "The Crow Moon is a time of mystery and majick, of endings and the potential of new beginnings.  It is a great time to get psychic insight into the coming growing season, or to do majick for unusual and strange things that would not normally work at other times in the year."

I hope you all enjoy this quiet time, a time to curl up on the couch and read, write or do handwork.  Time to get your thoughts and plans together (and on paper) for spring is right around the corner and all things new rapidly approach.  You will need focus, energy, receptiveness, and skill...it's going to be one heck of a spring everyone!

                          Choosing the Path

I am still compiling mountains of information/research for the upcoming "Tarot" post...not to worry folks the first post will be published in a couple of days.  The full moon post will be published later today...just fyi.

Since I have been buried in research and reviewing data from the beginning of my path to present many issues have come to mind that I feel compelled to share BEFORE we begin this journey together.  Oh yes, the last post there was over 400 views of this blog!  Thank you everyone for viewing and if you would like a certain subject or issue to be addressed please do not hesitate to message me via Facebook.

It is very important to understand that following the path of mysticism, paganism, and especially the Wiccan path, that this is a lifelong commitment.  I am referring to one that has been "called" by deities to serve, or if there is a burning desire that just won't go away.  A thirst for knowledge, an un-satisfiable hunger, in short a yearning to "know" to experience, to feel, to grow, and most importantly to help others.  That means people, animals, our Mother Earth and ALL her inhabitants.  When you agree to co-create with your Gods/Goddesses to make our world a more beautiful, inspiring, kinder and gentler place to exist (for that IS our role)...then you are ready for this journey.  For that IS our role.   It is must be understood that becoming knowledgeable about astrology, astronomy, alchemy, climatology (which also covers planetary cycles and in-depth study of all things Earth) spirit connection/interpretation, Tarot, crystal therapy, candle magick, as well as spells and rituals - is essential.  I have barely skimmed the surface here. The point being, all these things are connected and let's say you have an important spell that needs to be cast, knowing Void of Course, planetary position(s), cycle/season of earth, phase of the moon, etc., etc., amps up your chances of a successful spell with the desired outcome.  I ALWAYS do research and fortify myself and my space with all the above, to assure maximum success accompanied by the highest level of outcome possible.  You can perform these actions without this prior fortification but the success and outcome of what you are striving for diminishes significantly. I'm not saying it is impossible to achieve success without prior preparation...but I am saying it is highly desirable (on many levels) to prepare.  It is also the responsibility of oneself to study, study, study.  So many times I have heard people voice discontent about professors and/or teachers about their lack of knowledge and/or skill(s) after classes.  Here's the deal folks, it is the responsibility of the instructor to show you, tell you, and share their knowledge and experience.  What you do with it is TOTALLY up to you.  For those of you who have attended universities, you know as I certainly do, a Professor will tell you once...after that it is up to the student to study, do assignments, papers, etc.  That's it, end of story.  If the work is not done it is you that will have to deal with the consequences, whether it be a low grade or not knowing how to set up an altar...it is ultimately YOUR responsibility.

Full Moon post coming tonight :}

New Posts

The Project Manager is now in receipt of all MWS stories and is editing the last two!  YAY!  Since all photography is complete I have some time before we go into ultrarapid speed of the final phase of the project.

During this time I will utilize this blog to help some folks out.

After spending the evening with international friends last week, I have agreed to begin a series of posts to share research findings, teachings and the experiences I have had over the last several decades on this metaphysical/magickal path that I have been on.  Because my friend's have limited access to internet sources and written materials are even more scarce, I have agreed to share this information via this blog since they can access it from abroad.  I know all too well what it's like to be "hungry" for direction, guidance, and knowledge when you live in a suppressed society.
I will first be sharing the history of the Tarot...a path of twists and turns with a wide variety of opinions and theories were shared with me over the years.  However, two things I ALWAYS question are opinions without concrete evidence and anything and everything that is man made.  This belief led me to research and find out for myself documented and verifiable facts regarding the Tarot.  I began in 1975 and have just recently completed my research and am just now personally satisfied with my findings.
Future posts will address Freyja, astrology/astronomy/climatology, runes, crystal magick,  pagan and wiccan paths, and other subjects as they make themselves known and want to be addressed.

I feel I should acknowledge the incredible people that guided me on this path.  My Mother introduced me to psychics and crystal magick in 1970.  Beginning in 1975 a circle of lifelong friends introduced me to the following - Marcia Mai was all things astrology and spirit work, Cricket was the IChing and hedge witch, Ginger revolved around mind-body-soul work with candle magick.  After 10 - 15 years Marcia Mai then introduced me to runes which led me to Freyja of course.  My grandmother then found through genealogy in England that we are descendants of the Norse Norman tribe - 300 a.d. Edward the Conqueror, the Black Knight.   At that point I was hooked on all things Viking and Freyja herself.
My friends were all 10 to 20 years older than me...I was the baby of a group of 10 and now the sole survivor.  How extraordinary it was to be surrounded by such power, knowledge, wisdom, and I don't think it's a stretch to say these women were a bit dangerous.  I was protected, spoiled, and loved...wow, how lucky was I?

The first post will publish this week.

SNOW MOON - JANUARY 2016

Snow  Moon in Leo - Jan. 2016
also known as Wolf Moon, Quiet Moon, and Cold Moon

The Snow moon is full on 1/23/2016 at 8:46 pm EST and on 1/24/2016 at 1:46 UST (universal standard time).  For most of you it shall be EST and certainly for those of us in Salem, Ma it is tonight at 8:46 EST.  As the massive storm Jonas hits NYC and is  making his entrance into New England, my background music is the sound of strong winds whirring, whistling and occasionally rocking this 160 year old house.  All the candles are lit in the fireplace and the cat's have settled down for a long winter's nap as I write this post.  I am happy to report that my
"familiar in training"  has passed yet another test...that being a response and reaction to magikal books, documents, and various research materials.  After careful inspection for several hours, Potion is now comfy warm with his ugly xmas sweater on and Sidhe is the same curled up on top of the furnace grill complete with a small carpet for comfort.  All is well in the Fox magikal household on this night of the Snow Moon.
Since most of you are obviously being greatly effected by Jonas, I suspect that viewing of this post will most likely be when life returns to normal...probably tomorrow or after.  Use these posts  as a source of information that can be used now and in the future.  After ten years of attendance at universities from New York City to Salem Mass., I learned first and foremost how to take extensive notes and to conduct reliable and comprehensive research papers and documentation.  The information contained in these full moon posts is a direct result of over 40 years of study, involving the collection of books, articles, magazines, published papers and viewing various media such as television/film documentaries and research commentaries.  During preparation for this post I found my earliest books on moon phases, astrology and astronomy dating back to the early 1970's, some no longer in print.  Valuable resources for sure and I'm so glad I still have my library in tact as my 2016 materials have not yet arrived.  So, this post will be a little different.
The phases of the moon are essential for effective rituals, magick, meditations, for perfecting the art of quantum physics and for  making positive changes in ones life.  All phases are important, however the full moon invokes the most significant and powerful results...she is the moon phase on steroids.  "The moon in all her phases is one of the most powerful tools we can use to aid us in our efforts.  The trick is to work in harmony with her" according to D. Morrison.  Depending upon one's astrological chart (ruling planets) and exactly what it is that you are seeking, whether it be when to plant lettuce, buy a car or become intimate with someone new...the moon has GREAT influence upon the outcome.  There are significant dates and times when to do your "bidding" and when not to.  I speak of the "void of course" of the moon.  Complex and technical information that I shall save for a future post, void of course deserves and warrants extensive explanation for one to understand the process and how it has come to be.
A tidbit = Annually on 1/24 The Blessing of the Candle of Happy Women in Hungary is celebrated...a ceremony of purification honoring Fire Goddesses.
The Snow Moon is certainly a time for friends, family and home.  If there are family members or friends that you have unresolved issues with, this is the time to resolve them.  It is a time to work on  matters of the heart whether it be your significant other, friends or family.    All the while remember these people and how they have influenced and contributed to your life.  Think, "has this person enriched my life, made me feel confident and powerful, have they been there for me when I needed someone?"  Most importantly, when you see this person are you happy and look forward to chatting with them?  Or do you have a feeling of dread when you see them, do you wish you could avoid this person all together?  These are very important questions that only you can answer.  Also,   there are many rituals, prayers, and meditations that can assist one with these issues.  Remember, timing is everything.    It is also a time to work on partnerships as well as projects that are not complete which require courage and tenacity.
The moon in Leo is an excellent time for presentations, colleagues or guests in your home.  Ceremonies, discussions that are frank, honest, and direct are also encouraged during this period.  The Leo moon is masculine, hot, dry, and barren.  Do not approach situations which require public approval or put yourself in a position where you have to deal with dishonesty.  This will bring out the worst in Leo traits.  The end result will be arrogance, impatience, and a bit of narcissism in it's truest form.

The snow is now falling consistently on this Salem Towne and the winds of change are blowing fiercely.  Stay warm my friends and remember to tell the ones you love now, for the day will come when you do not have that luxury.

PS - MWS is one story away from completion...THEN we compile!  Hugs!
